- my philosophy -

I BELIEVE IN LIFELONG LEARNING.

The challenges we face, in life and in art, require us to ceaselessly adapt, grow, and diversify. I provide a space that welcomes all challenges and supports all learners to confront those challenges. I create a classroom that emboldens students to understand the perspectives of others and to communicate their own perspectives through a lens of dance and movement. Using a blend of learning modalities, I lead every student to success by catering lessons to their learning style, and by challenging them to work outside of their comfort zone. I encourage students to transfer the culture of growth in my classroom to their life beyond dance.

DECONSTRUCTING CONTACT

Using Contact Improvisation and weight sharing as a framework, this class explores movement possibilities that arise when shared weight is no longer supported. Class begins with participants improvising and weight sharing with a partner. Once comfortable, participants are invited to find pauses within their improvisational practices and explore different ways that they can repeat the same movement ideas without their partner. This experimental practice challenges participants to think creatively to recreate and maintain the shapes, weight distributions, and initiations of movements without a partner’s support.
